Financial results at six of the most profitable New York–based firms showed single-digit growth and even slighter profitability gains in 2011, according to The American Lawyer's reporting. Partners at several firms say the second half of the year was tough amid tightening credit markets worldwide, boding ill for the first half of 2012.

In the year leading up to the tie-up that created Faegre Baker Daniels, gross revenue at Indianapolis-based Baker & Daniels climbed 3.8 percent to $175.5 million, while Minneapolis-based Faegre & Benson saw its gross revenue dip 0.8 percent $254.5 million, according to The American Lawyer's reporting.

The Missouri–based firm saw gross revenue dip 4.7 percent to $266 million and its profits per partner fall 7.1 percent to $525,000 in 2011, according to The American Lawyer's reporting. On the heels of the sluggish financial results, the firm confirmed Tuesday that it is stripping 25 partners of equity status.
