Wilmer Announces Leadership Succession Plan

Come January 2012, "Bill and Bill" (Perlstein and Lee) will make way for their co-managing partner successors, Boston-based Susan Murley and Washington, D.C.-based Robert Novick. The partnership voted on and approved the transition on Friday.

A recent gathering of law firm managing partners in New York nearly took an unexpected turn when 21 of the attendees conducted a straw poll to gauge business prospects for next year. The results were better than expected.

New Managing Partner for Locke Lord's Chicago Office

The firm has named Jennifer Kenedy to serve as managing partner of the firm's Chicago office, succeeding her friend and colleague Larry Gray, who passed away unexpectedly on July 19. "I'm certainly not filling Larry's shoes, but following him in his footsteps," Kenedy said.

Chairman and CEO Barton Winokur will be stepping down in 2011 after 15 years at the helm of the firm. New York partner and star litigator Andrew Levander has been named chairman-elect; Philadelphia partner and vice-chairman G. Daniel O'Donnell has been named CEO-elect.

Baker & McKenzie Taps São Paulo Partner as Next Firm Chair

Eduardo Leite, who has served as managing partner of the firm's Brazil offices since 2003, has been elected chairman of Baker & McKenzie's eight-person executive committee. Leite will take the reins from current chair and Chicago partner John Conroy, Jr., on October 30.

Harvard Business School's newly named dean, Nitin Nohria, has argued that management should become a profession, and managers should focus on regaining much of the legitimacy they've lost over the past decade. One model they might look to, he suggests: the legal profession. As contributing writer and retired Kirkland & Ellis partner Steven Harper sees it, Nohria must look elsewhere.

Greenberg Traurig Completes Leadership Transition

The leadership succession plan announced by Greenberg Traurig a year ago is now complete. Longtime CEO Cesar Alvarez has stepped aside and firm president Richard Rosenbaum has assumed the role of chief executive. In an interview with The Miami Herald, Alvarez reflected on his tenure, including some of his regrets.
