Husch Blackwell Signs Referral Deal with U.K. Firm McGrigors
Posted by Tom Huddleston Jr.
Am Law 200 firm Husch Blackwell has signed a referral deal with U.K. firm McGrigors, and the news marks the latter's entry into the U.S. market, Legal Week reported Monday.
The firms will have preferred supplier status on transatlantic work, with infrastructure, financial services, energy, and government affairs work likely getting the bulk of the attention, according to Legal Week.
The new relationship will result in Husch Blackwell folding its London office into McGrigors' headquarters. The move is expected to be complete by mid-May.
"Our presence in the city has been a key element of our success since we opened here in 1999," Husch Blackwell London managing partner Michael Ray told LegalWeek. "Our model is unique. We do not compete with U.K. law firms. Rather we manage our clients' U.K. service needs and provide a full-service resource for the legal needs of U.K.-based businesses across the U.S."
McGrigors managing partner Richard Masters added: "In our key sectors of infrastructure, energy, and professional and financial services, our clients work in an increasingly globalized marketplace. We pride ourselves on being able to respond to and assist our clients wherever they may be, and this relationship will help us do that."
Kansas City-based Husch Blackwell formed in 2007 with the merger of Husch & Eppenberger and Blackwell Sanders. The firm then merged again in 2008 with Chicago-based intellectual property litigation boutique Welsh & Katz.
