More Ex-Howrey Partners Find New Homes

Posted by Brian Baxter

The news of lawyers from Howrey finding new jobs continued late Thursday and Friday, with at least three Am Law 200 firms picking up pieces of the 55-year-old firm, which officially dissolved on March 15.

Mayer Brown announced that it had added 21 IP, antitrust, and litigation lawyers from Howrey in four of its offices. Alan Grimaldi, the former cochair of Howrey's IP practice, is joining Mayer Brown in Washington, D.C., along with partner Brian Rosenthal and seven associates from the now-defunct firm. Grimaldi will cohead Mayer Brown's global IP group with current practice leaders Joseph Mahoney, A. John Mancini, and Kenny Wong.

The former managing partner of Howrey's New York office, IP partner Theresa Gillis, is also joining Mayer Brown in that city. Former Howrey IP partners Thomas Jenkins and Steven Yovits are joining the firm in Chicago, along with another associate.

Also leaving Howrey for Mayer Brown are antitrust partner Carmine Zarlenga in Washington and litigation partners Dale Giali and Michael Resch in Los Angeles. Three ex-Howrey associates are also joining Mayer Brown in D.C., while two others will work out of L.A.

Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft also took on five antitrust lawyers from Howrey on Friday. The firm hired antitrust partners Peter Moll and Brian Wallach in Washington. Both lawyers scored a big antitrust win for client First Data Corporation last September. Joining them at Cadwalader are ex-Howrey associates Gregory Langsdale, Jessica Thompson, and Elizabeth Wright.

Jenner & Block announced on Friday it had hired Howrey insurance coverage litigation partner Mary Craig Calkins in Los Angeles. Calkins joins the firm's insurance litigation practice, which received another boost last week when the firm hired insurance coverage litigator Linda Kornfeld, the former managing partner of Dickstein Shapiro's Los Angeles office. Kornfeld reunites with old colleague Jerry Oshinsky, a former name partner at Dickstein, who joined Jenner in August 2009.

This week alone, former Howrey lawyers left the firm for Arent Fox, Arnold & Porter, Baker Botts, Dewey & LeBoeuf, Dickstein Shapiro, Greenberg Traurig, Haynes and Boone, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, Seyfarth Shaw, Winston & Strawn, and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.
