Proskauer, SJ Berwin Call Off Merger Talks
Posted by Chris Johnson
Proskauer Rose and U.K. firm SJ Berwin have finally put an end to their protracted merger discussions, reports the London-based publication LegalWeek.
Having rumbled on for over nine months, the trans-Atlantic talks ultimately ended Thursday after the two firms concluded a tie-up was "not workable at this time," Legal Week reports.
SJ Berwin's management had come under increasing pressure from its partnership in recent months due to the continued delay in completing the deal, Legal Week reported separately on Thursday. A number of senior partners had left the London office during the negotiations, including real estate chief Jon Vivian and arbitration cohead David Goldberg.
In 2009, the property and funds-focused firm also held tentative merger talks with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and referral partner Goodwin Procter.

New York Law Journal, a sibling publication, has this story on the decision to call of the talks.
