Amid Merger Talks, Squire, Sanders Loses Head of Litigation in London
Posted by Tom Huddleston Jr.
LegalWeek reports a major defection from Squire, Sanders & Dempsey's U.K. litigation practice during the firm's ongoing merger talks with Hammonds.
Rod Cowper, the head of Squire, Sanders's litigation practice in London, has joined Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge's London litigation practice as a partner. Cowper specializes in litigation and international arbitration, advising clients in such areas as transportation, telecommunications, and financial services.
The proposed merger between Squire, Sanders and Hammonds has been in the works since August, and any agreement would surely result in changes for the office that Cowper is leaving. LegalWeek notes that the merger would call for Squire, Sanders' London office to move into Hammonds' city headquarters.
Joseph Markoski, Squire, Sanders's London managing partner, told LegalWeek: "The merger discussions with Hammonds may impact the look of our City litigation presence. We are hoping to reach closure soon."
