Ruden McClosky: "We're Not Dissolving"
Posted by Zach Lowe
Last week, when another eight lawyers--including several high-powered partners--left the Florida firm Ruden McClosky for Adams and Reese, we began to hear rumblings that Ruden was on the verge of dissolving. The firm is down to 123 lawyers from 175 at the start of 2009, and it has fallen well out of The National Law Journal's annual ranking of the nation's 250 law firms. The firm also laid off about 35 staffers and a handful of attorneys last year, according to the Daily Business Review, an Am Law Daily sibling publication.
Partners at the firm--and those who left for Adams and Reese last week--declined to comment when we reached them or didn't return repeated messages seeking comment. But Carl Schuster, Ruden's managing director, released a statement through a firm spokeswoman saying the firm will stay open and is "in discussion with several potential laterals."
Schuster declined requests for an interview through a firm spokeswoman. In his statement, Schuster added, "Our firm is committed to serving Florida business and maintains a strong presence throughout the state."
