White & Case Exodus Continues
Posted by Brian Baxter
Legal Week reports that Latham & Watkins has lured M&A partner Andrew Macklin from White & Case's Doha office, the thirteenth partner to leave the firm for Latham in the last week.
The defections began last Friday when Latham took the bulk of W&C's U.K. banking practice by hiring four highly regarded banking and capital markets partners. Earlier this week Latham hired another eight W&C partners from the firm's offices in London, New York, Abu Dhabi, and Riyadh.
Macklin made partner at W&C a year ago after joining the firm in 2005. He relocated to Doha, the capital of Qatar, last October to head the firm's new office in the Gulf state. With Macklin leaving for Latham, W&C's Doha office will be left with just one associate.
"We remain committed to Qatar and we will shortly
identify the partner who will take over the leadership of that office,"
W&C said in a statement to Legal Week. "We will continue with our
existing plans, in place since we launched the Doha office last year, to
transfer associates to the office during 2010 to provide it with additional
strength."
