The Churn: Lateral Moves and Promotions in The Am Law 200

Posted by Matt Straquadine

Arnold & Porter has hired two partners from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft: John Busillo and Alan Lawrence. Both are real estate finance lawyers who are joining Arnold & Porter as partners in the New York office.

Theresa Weir has left Hogan & Hartson to join the health practice group in the Memphis office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz. An associate with her former firm, she’s been hired at Baker Donelson as of counsel.

McDermott Will & Emery has recruited Yar Chaikovsky, previously cohead of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal’s Silicon Valley office, to handle IP litigation at its Silicon Valley office.

Basil Umari has joined McKool Smith from Andrews Kurth. Umari, a bankruptcy associate at his former firm, has been hired as a partner in McKool Smith's Houston office. His hiring follows McKool’s big break into bankruptcy in October, with the hiring of Hugh Ray, Andrews Kurth’s bankruptcy chair.

Seyfarth Shaw has gained a lawyer from Hogan & Hartson, sibling publication The Blog of Legal Times reports. William Kahn, an associate at his former firm, will be a partner at Seyfarth, working in the corporate department in D.C.

A former in-house lawyer at KPMG has joined Sutherland Asbill & Brennan. Kendall Jones recently retired from the accounting giant but apparently won’t stop working. He’ll be of counsel in Sutherland Asbill’s D.C. office, consulting on tax matters.

The Churn is compiled from law firm news releases and announcements. Moves based on our own reporting will note this.
