"Skadden, You Gladden My Heart"

Posted by Zach Lowe

We were admittedly skeptical when our editors asked us to point you to this Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom associate's bluesy musical tribute to her law firm, one she penned after our colleague Ben Hallman challenged lawyer-readers to write such a song in an August 21 Litigation Daily story.

Then we listened to Stacy Kray's "Skadden, You Gladden My Heart," and, frankly, it's pretty damn impressive, especially considering Kray, a senior associate in the firm's San Francisco office, penned the tune in an hour. (You can listen to the song here.)

Hallman came up with the song challenge after writing last week about Skadden's win on behalf of Jon Bon Jovi and other parties who stood accused of stealing someone's song. You can read the full story about the case here and read Hallman's interview with Kray here. Hallman also helpfully shares the full lyrics, which include this gem:

Skadden, don't be angry with my song.
I penned it with time off the clock.

Kray is a singer-songwriter on the side, so she wasn't wading into totally unfamiliar waters here. But we bet there are other aspiring rockers out there ready to belt something out about their firm, the billable hour, or the sad story of the law school class of 2011.
