DLA Piper Announces More Job Cuts in U.S. Offices
Posted by Vivian Yee
DLA Piper announced Wednesday that it is laying off 21 associates and 100 staff members throughout the firm's U.S. offices, according to The National Law Journal, a sibling publication.
In a firmwide memo distributed midday Wednesday, firm leaders cited the ongoing economic downturn as the cause of the cost-cutting measures. "It is increasingly clear that major improvements in the U.S. and global economy will not occur before 2010," they said. The partners also said they had hoped to avoid further layoffs after implementing the first round of cuts in February.
The layoffs come nearly five months after the firm layed off 80 lawyers and 100 staff members in the U.S.
DLA Piper also has reduced its lawyer and staff head count in some of its international offices, including Hong Kong, London, and offices in the Middle East.
