THE CHURN: Lateral Moves and Promotions in The Am Law 200

Posted by Francesca Heintz

Cozen O’Connor added two in New York last week: Angelo Savino as a partner in the global insurance group, and Robert Fischer as of counsel in the corporate group. Savino, previously at Mound Cotton Wollan & Greengrass, focuses on matters involving directors and officers, professional errors and omissions, and corporate indemnification. Fischer, previously of Wolf Block and cofounder of that firm’s New York office, concentrates on corporate law, venture capital, and mergers and acquisitions.

After a stint at Wiggin & Dana, Patrick Egan has rejoined Fox Rothschild's white-collar compliance and defense group. Egan, who first joined Fox Rothschild in 2006, represents individuals in federal white-collar criminal defense matters and parallel civil actions. He also has a niche practice in the area of Internet pharmacies and public corruption.

Husch Blackwell Sanders added strength in Denver with the hire of Robert Attai as a partner in the securities/mergers and acquisitions department. Attai counsels clients on securities disclosures and SEC compliance and also acts as outside general counsel to companies in the oil and gas, biotech, Internet services, remote sensing, and manufacturing industries. Prior to joining Husch Blackwell, Attai was a partner at Otten Johnson Robinson Neff & Ragonetti.

K&L Gates welcomed Alexander Zolfaghari as a partner in the firm’s finance practice. Zolfaghari, who joins the firm from Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, will maintain an office in both Charlotte and New York. He focuses on a range of financing matters, including acquisitions, workouts and restructurings, and unsecured financings.

Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell continues to grow its energy practice in Washington, D.C., with the hire of Bruce Grabow as senior counsel. Grabow represents electric utility clients before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and state regulatory agencies. He was previously at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.

Kenneth Yoon has joined McCarter & English as a partner in the tax and benefits practice group in the New York office. Yoon handles the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, international transactions, securities offerings, investment funds, bankruptcy, and executive compensation. He also represents technology and emerging companies in strategic planning, employment and software development agreements, and mergers and acquisitions. He joins the firm from Arent Fox.

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius took a big bite out of Bingham McCutchen’s banking and leveraged finance group, hiring away five partners and six associates, as we reported last week. All 11 lawyers are in Morgan, Lewis’s Boston office, specializing in corporate finance and restructuring.

Former Alston & Bird partner William Barron is now heading the international litigation practice in the New York office of Smith, Gambrell & Russell. Barron focuses on international corporate litigation and commercial disputes, including trade secret issues, franchise law, and mergers and acquisitions. The litigator, who is fluent in German, deals mainly with German companies doing business in the U.S.

Commercial litigator Jenifer Niedenthal has joined Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice's Atlanta office. Niedenthal defends clients at trial in breach of contract, fraud, and commercial arbitration cases. She has also led efforts to develop and implement best practices related to e-discovery and the use of online tools in litigation support. Niedenthal was previously at Greenberg Traurig.

The Churn is compiled from law firm news releases and announcements. Moves based on our own reporting will note this.
