Live Blogging the Madoff Hearing: Bernie Makes His Entrance

Posted by Brian Baxter

Bernard Madoff has just entered the courtoom and sat down with his lawyers, Dickstein Shapiro's Ira Lee Sorkin, Mauro Wolfe, and Daniel Horwitz.

Madoff, sporting a charcoal gray suit and tie, is not wearing his now trademark baseball cap.

While we're waiting for the proceedings to begin in a few minutes, we’d like to thank our colleague Mark Hamblett from The New York Law Journal for allowing us use his computer in the press room.

There's a slight concern that we might lose the closed-circuit link in the pressroom.

By law, cameras are not allowed in federal courtrooms. In the past, some news agencies have tried to make the closed-circuit link a live feed via tape recorders, camera phones, and other means.

That has led U.S. Marshals to threaten shutting down the link if such media hijinks happen again. (By the way, the Marshals call tape recorders "dictaphones"--we got a kick out of that.)
