Live Blogging the Madoff Hearing: Bail Revoked, Madoff Remanded

Posted by Brian Baxter

After Sorkin completed his argument in favor of letting his client remain free on bail, Chin didn't waste any time in telling the government and victims in the galley that they needn't worry about speaking.

With Madoff's guilty plea in hand, the defendant is no longer "entitled to the presumption of innocence," Chin says. He revoked Madoff's bail--calling him a "flight risk" in light of the severity of the charges for which he just entered a guilty plea--and granted the government's request for remand.

Sorkin immediately jumped up and requested a stay, which was quickly denied by Chin.

"Mr. Madoff, I will see you at sentencing," Chin says. "We are adjourned."

Madoff got up with his Dickstein Shapiro lawyers and walked out of range of the closed-circuit video feed, so we don't know if he was handcuffed and escorted out of the courtroom by U.S. Marshals.

Our colleague Mark Hamblett of the New York Law Journal is picking up with this coverage, now. We'll bring you his reports as soon as we've got them.
