Cadwalader Threatens to Sue Former London Partners
Posted by Nate Raymond
Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft has threatened legal action against a group of seven partners who left this month for Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker, Am Law Daily sibling publication Legal Week reports.
In letters sent by its lawyers at London firm Lewis Silkin, Cadwalader alleges the group breached confidential terms of the firm's partnership agreement. Legal Week reports that under British employment law, Cadwalader may be able to force Paul Hastings to take on more of its associates that originally expected.
Cadwalader's U.K. operation currently has 23 associates; more than half are expected to follow partners to Paul Hastings. In a statement, Cadwalader said it believes British law will "protect the rights of those employees" who "worked with, for or in relation, to the business of those partners.”
