Dewey Guides CBS-CNET Deal
Posted by Zach Lowe
Thirteen Dewey & LeBoeuf lawyers, led by M&A partners Mort Pierce and Chang-Do Gong, represented CNET, which owns such popular sites as mp3.com, UrbanBaby, and Search.com.
Weil, Gotshal & Manges served as counsel for CBS, said Angelo Kakolyris, a Dewey spokesman. Weil is one of CBS's regular outside counsel.
Dewey attorneys have been working with CNET since December, when a group of investors that included the hedge fund Jana Partners tried to gain control of CNET’s board, Pierce said.
Pierce and CNET chief executive Neil Ashe have known each other for about 15 years, Pierce said.
CBS’s stock fell Thursday morning in part due to skepticism about the merger prospects, The New York Times reported.
