The Churn: Lateral Moves and Promotions in The Am Law 200

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has added JULIA SULLIVAN as a partner in the firm's energy regulatory practice in Washington, D.C. Sullivan, who was previously a solo practitioner, works on regulatory issues related to the electric utility and natural gas pipeline industries.

Barnes & Thornburg is expanding its Minneapolis office with the addition of bankruptcy attorney MARK KALLA as a partner. Kalla, most recently with Dorsey & Whitney, advises clients on bankruptcy and workout matters, as well as corporate bond defaults and commercial disputes.

A ten-person group of Stevens, O'Connell & Jacobs attorneys will join DLA Piper's litigation practice in Sacramento, effective May 1. The team of lawyers is led by firm cofounders CHARLES STEVENS and GEORGE O'CONNELL, along with partners MATTHEW JACOBS and BRADLEY BENBROOK. One associate and five of counsel--DAVID CHEIT, CRAIG ALLISON, TODD NOONAN, STEVEN KIMBALL, and ALEXANDER MEDINA--also join from Stevens O'Connell. Both O'Connell and Stevens are former U.S. attorneys. The group specializes in internal investigative, white-collar criminal defense, and civil litigation matters.

Holland & Knight announced the arrival of BRAD BERMAN as a partner in the firm's New York office, where he will join both the structured finance and maritime practice groups. Berman was formerly executive director of the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR), and had previously served as the registry's general counsel. 

Novak Druce + Quigg is welcoming partner JEFFREY KAMENETSKY to the firm's West Palm Beach, Fla., office, where he will specialize in patent prosecution, trademark, litigation, and licensing matters. He was most recently with Christopher & Weisberg.

The former general counsel of the Virginia Bankers Association is now counsel in the financial services regulatory practice of Reed Smith. JOSEPH SPRUILL will counsel clients in the banking industry on financial regulatory policy development and legislation, working in the firm's Richmond office.

WAYNE BOND has joined Seyfarth Shaw as a partner from Womble Carlyle. Bond, who handles litigation for clients in such industries as construction and financial services, will be based in Seyfarth's Atlanta office.

Finally...Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr is welcoming JESSICA KURZBAN as counsel in the firm's Los Angeles office, where she will be a part of the litigation, controversy, and securities departments. Kurzban, who arrives from Proskauer Rose, focuses on complex commercial litigation, SEC enforcement defense, and internal investigations.
