Posted by Irene Plagianos
Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft hired away Linklaters European competition partner Alec Burnside to open and manage the firm's new Brussels office, sibling publication Legal Week reports.
Burnside specializes in EU competition law, advising global industries and blue-chip companies on high-profile cases, according to a firm statement released Wednesday.
He has advised Microsoft in its alliance with Yahoo, Aer Lingus in its successful defense of Ryanair's hostile takeover bids, and Deutsche Borse for its pending merger with NYSE Euronext.
"To be able to bring on board a solicitor of the caliber of Alec Burnside is a game changer for our global antitrust group," Cadwalader antitrust head Rick Rule said in a statement. "Our ability to service our international corporate clients has just been strengthened considerably, and we look forward to growing this global practice."
