Mayer Brown Makes Third Round of Layoffs
Posted by Zach Lowe
The pace of law firms layoffs has showed noticeably as the economy continues to show consistent, if modest, signs of being on the way to recovering. But that doesn't mean the layoffs are completely done with. Case in point: Mayer Brown informed its lawyers today that the firm has let go 28 associates and counsel and 47 staffers, according to a memo first published on Above the Law and subsequently obtained by The Am Law Daily.
Mayer Brown declined to elaborate on the memo when we contacted them. In the memo, firm higher-ups offer assurances that Mayer Brown is off "to a positive start" in 2010, and that the firm's finances will be strong going forward.
According to our archives, this is the third round of Mayer Brown layoffs in roughly a year and a half. The firm let go of 33 associates and counsel in November 2008 and laid off 45 more lawyers last April.
