An uptick in climate change litigation and the SEC's impending release of new disclosure rules on climate change risks has presented four partners from Alston & Bird with a new opportunity. The lawyers have launched a new firm dedicated solely to environmental, energy, and climate change issues.

What's Up with Kirkland's Revolving Door?
Star patent litigator John Desmarais this week announced he is giving up his partner title to become of counsel at the firm while launching a patent licensing company. Desmarais's move comes on the heels of last week's announcement that star litigator David Bernick is headed to Philip Morris International. The week before that, IP litigator Peter Armenio left to cochair Quinn Emanuel's global life sciences practice. Is it just us, or is a pattern emerging?

The Boston-based firm's gross revenue fell 4 percent to $658 million in 2009. Revenue per lawyer was off 7.5 percent to $788,000, while profits per partner fell nearly 3 percent to $1.27 million.
