Legal Tab So Far in University of Illinois Admissions Scandal: $439,800

The University of Illinois has spent nearly $500,000 on legal bills for six firms retained in the past two months to handle an admissions scandal. The bulk of it went to Latham & Watkins, which advised the university on cooperating with the state commission reviewing its admissions procedures.

Litigator of the Week: Thomas Golden of Willkie Farr & Gallagher

Willkie Farr & Gallagher's Tom Golden scored a big win for the public's right to know this week. Golden represents media company Bloomberg, which filed a FOIA request seeking details about the Federal Reserve's emergency lending program during last year's financial crisis. On Monday a federal judge sided with Golden and ruled that the Fed should turn over these records.
