Breaking: Dechert Layoffs, Round Five
Posted by Zach Lowe
Our sibling publication the Legal Intelligencer has the e-mail from Dechert chair Barton Winokur announcing 125 layoffs worldwide this morning, according to this story (subscription only) on the paper's Web site. The layoffs mark the biggest of the five cuts Dechert has made since last March, and the first that will touch lawyers outside the U.S., the paper says.
In all, 63 attorneys and "other time keepers" and 62 staff members will lose their jobs, the Legal Intelligencer says. The cuts will impact offices in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
The Intelligencer also has handy background on prior cuts at Dechert: The firm laid off 13 associates last March, 72 U.S. staffers and 15 staffers in London in December, 19 more attorneys in February and ten lawyers a few weeks later.
"Needless to say, we are taking these steps reluctantly and with great regret," Winokur said.
