Bad News for Greenberg Traurig Office Head
Posted by Zach Lowe
Bad news for Robert Ivanhoe, chair of Greenberg Traurig's New York office: a state judge has refused to dismiss a suit one real estate client has brought against Ivanhoe accusing him of partnering up with one of the client's rivals to start up a competing real estate venture, according to the New York Law Journal, an Am Law Daily sibling publication.
Ivanhoe was representing Alliance Holdings in connection with Alliance's planned development project in Las Vegas, the story says. Alliance and its principal investor claim Ivanhoe secretly struck a deal with two rogue Alliance execs to develop a competing project "just miles" from Alliance's planned development in Vegas, the story says.
Ivanhoe and his legal team from Pollack & Kaminsky asked a state judge to dismiss a suit, claiming the allegations are all being hashed out in an arbitration going on in California. Greenberg's team argued the lawsuit was just a ploy to help Alliance gain leverage in that arbitration.
A judge disagreed and allowed the suit to move forward; Greenberg's team says they will appeal.
